Dear Parents/Carers,

Prior to lockdown in March, we sent every child home with a book to read over the summer. Many pupils have already returned their book, but there are still quite a lot of books which haven’t been returned. Most of these books were part of class sets that can be used for guided reading or were part of a reading scheme.

Having 30 books in a set allows our pupils to read along with the teacher during lessons. Unfortunately, without having all of the books returned, we are unable to do this and with many books missing, they will be very expensive to replace. If anyone does still have their pre-lockdown book at home, could you send it into school as soon as possible please?

If you are unsure whether a book belongs to you or the school, please check the inside cover. All books that we send home are stamped with the Rowlands Gill Primary School stamp.

We also have another request: if you have any reading scheme books such as Songbirds; Oxford Reading Tree; Floppy Phonics; Read, Write Inc, Oxford or Big Cat Collins (that you have bought for your child over the years) that you no longer need because your child has moved on from that reading stage, we would be incredibly grateful if you were to donate them to the school library. This will allow us to reuse your books as home readers for future children.

If you have any that you wish to send in, please put them in a plastic bag and send them in with your child. Items can be left in the boxes at the gates on arrival to school. We will quarantine them and then get them ready to be used with all of our children.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
