In science, we have been studying Darwin’s theory of evolution! We looked at Darwin’s research from his voyage to the Galapagos islands. The Galapagos finches helped to confirm Darwin’s idea of natural selection whereby the organisms most adapted to their environment are the most likely to survive. In the Galapagos islands, Darwin observed that each of the islands had similar types of finches, but that each was different to make the most of local conditions. We replicated their beaks using cooking tongs, pegs and tweezers and attempted to pick up different types of food (Malteasers, midget gems and grains of rice).
