As part of Design Technology the children were learning about food around the world. They made some tasty pretzels. It was really interesting to see how the yeast reacted when the water was added which created lots of discussion. They had to follow the instructions on the recipe, weigh out the ingredients and mix and knead the dough. Eventually they all had a small portion of dough to make their pretzel. There was a lot of work involved and it was a bit tricky at times, especially when they had to make the pretzel shape. They did a great job… So great that they were eaten before we could even take a photograph of the finished items! Lots of the children had not ever tasted a pretzel before so this was a new experience for them and some were quite surprised that they were able to make the dough out of a few ingredients. It was such a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
