Today, Year 4 had a visit from Nicola from the Tyne &Wear Fire Service to talk about fire safety. They learned about the fire triangle- what a fire needs in order to happen and how we can remove the dangers in our own homes very easily. The children were very good at spotting the possible causes around their homes and in their bedrooms. Did you know that it is not advisable to leave a mobile phone charging overnight? You may get a few tips tonight on what to do, but the plus side is that they should also be tidying up! Role play about a call to the emergency services was interesting, the children learned what to do when they called 999 and how important it is to know their address. Learning what to do in the event of an incident at home, how to stay calm and how important it is to have a home fire escape plan. Afterwards, they put their knowledge to the test by completing an activity booklet reinforcing all of their learning.
