Over the past few weeks the children have been learning about surrealism, magic realism and abstract art through the artist Joan Miro. They have studied a variety of paintings and sculptures, and discussed their ideas and opinions on his artwork. They then went on to create their own freestanding 3D sculpture in the style of MIro. They used lots of junk materials and mod-roc to design their sculptures and finished them off using bright, bold blocks of colour. The mod-roc is very messy and we did have some minor mishaps, but I’m sure you will agree that it was all worth it in the end. They have produced some amazing imaginative pieces of art.
