To celebrate maths we have had an action packed day full of fun activities from all of our teachers. We even had a parade and an air guitar competition this morning too. We participated in a wide range of math workshops, from bar models and fractions to multiplication. Last week, Year 5 looked at Roman Numerals. We investigated when they were used, where we might see them as well as how we can read them ourselves. After creating useful guides on how to read Roman Numerals we went down to the hall to play a game of ‘Roman Numeral Charades!’. This game involved the children in groups creating Roman Numerals using actions, the other children then had to guess what number they had created. We really enjoyed this practical maths lesson and it helped us create up to 5 digit numbers in Roman Numerals!
Today we went on a colour hunt. Miss Smales gave us clues and we had to guess the colour. Then we had to go find a object in the classroom to match that colour.
We have been using our knowledge of place value to find 1, 10, 100, 1000 more or less of numbers beyond 1000. We used place value counters when it got tricky, especially when exchanging. We hope we don't get in trouble for drawing on the tables 🙂
