Here at Rowlands Gill Primary School we are proud to have achieved the Level 1 UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award in 2014.

This whole school award is an initiative by UNICEF to make children and adults more aware of children’s rights.

Magic beans on toast

Magic beans on toast

The giant from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ invited us to his castle cafe for magic beans on toast. We had to take our own beans along to the cafe though, it is a good job we had been on a visit to TESCO the day before.

Mixing colours

We used the primary colours and mixed them to make secondary colours and painted our clay pots with them. We spoke about the war, and cool colours and the emotions we attached to different colours.

Freeze framing

We enjoyed reading our new story ‘The Storm Whale’ and freeze framed parts of the story to portray the emotions involved and the scenes the story were set in.

In D.T we have been designing and making bridges. We learned that we needed to ensure they were: stable, sturdy and supported. We used supports such as glue sticks, tube and cardboard to make our bridges more stable. We then tested the stability using weights.

We enjoyed using clay and the techniques we have learned to sculpt our clay pots using our hands and a variety of tools. We made the clay into thumb pots.
