We had lots of fun at the sports festival at Thorp Academy. We enjoyed a variety of sports such as; dribbling a football, throwing an catching as well as obstacle courses. We enjoyed working with our friends throughout the afternoon as part of a team.

Moving Minibeasts
We have been learning how a moving picture is made and experimenting with making their own. We used a sliding mechanism and decided whether we wanted it to be a horizontal, vertical or diagonal lever.
Giving and following instructions
We started learning about the importance of clear instructions in Computing. We listened to and gave instructions to others to see how important it was to be clearly understood.
Up, up and away!
We have enjoyed exploring our new book ‘Paper Planes’, making our own paper planes and watching them fly. We then thought of different verbs to describe how they moved.
Easter activities
We have had lots of fun decorating eggs, going on an Easter egg hunt as well as making Easter cards whilst learning about what Easter is and what Christians believe. Happy Easter from all of Year 1!
Making boomerangs
We have been learning all about Australia and studying Emily Kame Kngwarreye who is an Aboriginal Australian artist. We learnt about what the patterns and dots mean and which colours would be used to create our very own boomerangs.
We’re going on a length hunt…
We enjoyed measuring different items around the school, both indoors and outdoors using cubes as our non-standard unit of measure. We worked in teams to help us count, because some of the lengths were almost 100 cubes!

Searching for clues!
We enjoyed using magnifying glasses to search for the clues in the illustrations in our book ‘Grandad’s Island’. We saw lots of things in the pictures that gave us clues about what might happen next and we predicted why they might be there.
Measuring capacity
We have enjoyed learning about capacity, measuring different amounts into the bottles, using the language ‘full, half full, empty, nearly empty and nearly full’. We also learnt how to measure liquid using non standard units of measure, finding how many cups of water...
