Year 4 families will be walking, running, swimming, cycling or scooting in a sponsored event to help raise funds in memory of Elaine Berwick who was a much loved member of our school community. Our goal is to purchase Buddy Benches for the children to use in each playground and any additional funds will be used to support the purchase of forest school equipment. We hope this will leave a lasting memory as well as help, not only our children but children for years to come in Rowlands Gill Primary School.
The sponsored event will take place from the 5th to 16th July 2021 and will entail our year 4 families contributing miles towards our target total of 252 miles which represents the distance from Rowlands Gill to Elaine’s family home in Biggar, Scotland and back again! Updates will be posted on the Friends of Rowlands Gill Primary School facebook page on our journey and other fundraising activities to help towards reaching our fundraising target.
Buddy benches (also called friendship benches) are a special place in the playground where a child can go when they want someone to talk to or play with. It can be used at any time and for any reason and encourages children to ask for help or to signal that they need someone to play with if they are feeling lonely. Buddy benches encourage other children to include a child in their games or simply to have a chat with their fellow class mates.
