Year 1 have been working on addition and subtraction within 20 this week. We used concrete resources to be able to add and subtract numbers. The class worked in pairs and were able to write down their number sentences onto a whiteboard using the correct mathematical symbols. There was a lot of mathematical talk. developing our mathematical language and deepening an understanding of the concept during the lesson and the class were able to answer some word problem questions with the support of concrete resources.
