Year 6 had a lovely World Book Day with a range of activities based around the chosen book The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. After reading the book, each class worked in groups to make a ‘mood board’ of their thoughts and ideas around the text which brought about some lovely discussions on what is important in life, how we are all enough as we are, and many other feelings. The afternoon was geared around art activities beginning with the children sketching their own pictures from the beautiful illustrations in the book and even writing their own messages to accompany them. Their next task was to model the characters from the book with clay, drawing on the skills they learned in their last art unit. As well as a book swap, we all joined in two lovely assemblies where teachers read their favourite children’s books – a fabulous day of literature all round!
