In English today, we have been learning to draft and redraft our work when writing ‘inside, outside sentences’. Inside, outside sentences are used when a character is feeling a certain way on the inside but displaying something different on the outside.
For example: On the outside Miss Winskill confidently stood at the front of the busy assembly. On the outside, however, she was shaking in her boots and was only just holding it together.
We have been using giant rolls of paper (kindly donated by a business who were going to throw them out!) which fit perfectly on our desks. We were learning to read our sentences back to each other in order to spot where our basic errors were and offer advice to our partners. We worked really hard to remember where the punctuation needed to go in these sentences.
By the end of the lesson, our rolls of paper were FULL of fabulous ideas. We also recognised that editing work in our books using our green pen in the same way is a good thing.
