Year 6 are half way through their new PE unit, types of training! They are learning about 4 different types of training: continuous, interval, fartlek and circuit. Today we tackled continuous training, which when the children rated on the rate of perceived exertion score, was the hardest to date! The children were given an incentive to run as many laps as they could in 10 mins (inspired from the 12 min cooper run). Depending on how many laps they completed determined what prize they won, every child ran for their personal best and the whole class were very encouraging of each other. Every child managed to run for 10 minutes without stopping – even if they had to walk for a bit, they were determined to continuously train! We discussed the strengths to this type of training and how it can benefit stamina and cardiovascular fitness.
The children have also enjoyed planning and performing circuit training which involves various activities!
Well done to year 6 who are showing a willingness to improve themselves and a lot of motivation to train!
