After listening to the story One Winters Day, about a hedgehog who needed to find a home to keep him warm on a snowy day, we wrapped up nice and warm and went on a walk around the school to look for any signs of hedgehogs. We talked about how they might be hibernating and looked at where they could be sleeping. We did not find any and decided the hedgehogs had found a super warm hiding place to keep warm during the winter. We did find some sticks to make our houses with, a ball the shape of a hedgehog and some plants starting to grow in the eco garden. Miss Smales brought a hedgehog house in to show the children where they might hide if they get to cold. Some of the children made their own home for a hedgehog using resources they found on the nursery yard. We then decided to make some play dough to make some hedgehogs. We experimented with colour mixing to make brown play dough and used our strong muscles to knead the dough to mix all the flour in. Together, we rolled some dough and placed some sticks for the pricky tops and added some eyes.
