We have been asked to share this information with our parents and carers by Gateshead Hockey Club who run training sessions at Whickham School for juniors.

You may be aware that a number of school Hockey tournaments were recently held within Gateshead (Whickham School & Sports College and Lord Lawson) with the subsequent regional finals being held at The Parks in North Shields. These tournaments were really well attended by schools, which was fantastic to see, and a number of our members, were present at these tournaments to assist with umpiring the matches and to promote Gateshead Hockey Club.
The Club is actively looking to expand is flourishing Junior section and would like to extend an invitation to any of your pupils who may be interested in starting out, continuing or developing further in hockey to come along to our Junior training and hopefully join the Club.
We run Junior training sessions at Whickham School, for ages 5-16, every Tuesday evening from 18:15 to 19:15. The sessions are designed to be fun and enjoyable, while teaching basic skills and teamwork.
The Club enters its Junior teams in the relevant local age-group competitions and are the only North-East club to run an U14 Boys team in the Tier 1 Yorkshire and North-East Junior League.
The Club recently won (for the second year in a row) the Junior In2Hockey event hosted by Tynedale Hockey Club. The team involved have progressed to the regional finals; last year the team were overall runners-up in the competition.
The Club also runs a Development Team, made up primarily of our 12/13 year-olds playing alongside a couple of Senior players/coaches, which plays regular friendly matches and provides an opportunity to play against a mix of similar-aged children and adults in a relaxed and safe environment in preparation for transitioning to Senior hockey.
Last summer, the Club ran a successful Hockey Fun Day, attracting around 80 youngsters from the local area, and we are looking to run a similar event this year.
