The children in reception have thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Big Bird Watch week’, we have made bird feeders, bird houses, play dough birds and even tracked and counted the birds we could see in Rowlands Gill!
The children have even helped to collect data this week by going outside for a short period of time to see which birds we could spot and marked them down using some tens frames. We discovered that we could see lots of blackbirds and pigeons but we couldn’t find many robins or blue tits. The children had lots of fun finding out about the different types of birds and how we can look after them.
We also made ‘eco-friendly’ bird feeders using pine cones, honey and seeds. Every child got to take their bird feeder home to hang in a tree near their house so they can continue to watch the birds over the weekend too. They all loved making the bird feeders even though it was quite a sticky job, they are looking forward to what birds they will see visit their feeders at home.
