Since coming back to school we have noticed it has been very cold outside which had caused some ice and frost to form in our garden. We explored the ice by trying to break it, we soon discovered we needed to melt it. After lots of discussion the children could tell me that in order to melt the ice we needed something warm like the sun or warm water. We experimented by adding warm water and soon watched the ice melt into water, turning from a solid into a liquid.
To investigate even further we then looked at freezing instead of melting. The children made some juice which we talked about was a liquid we then poured this into our moulds and popped it into the freezer, where the temperature was very cold. The next day we noticed the ice was now solid and frozen. We had made our very own ice lollies which we got to sit and enjoy together!
