OPERATION ENCOMPASS
In accordance with the Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird’s Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy, Operation Encompass has been initiated in Northumbria Police to promote the value of early interventions in schools.
In Gateshead, Operation Encompass is part of the wider Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) that has recently been established within Gateshead Council to support vulnerable persons.
The process commenced on 01 April 2015 and all eighty seven schools in Gateshead are participating in Operation Encompass. The process is to be rolled out to the rest of the Northumbria Police area very soon.
All School Key Adults have undertaken Operation Encompass training and are extremely positive about this exchange of information which is assisting them greatly in providing tailored support to children, young people and their families. One Key Adult Commented “I must say I think that this is a great operation as it keeps us well informed and it gives me a great understanding of the children and families I work with.”
Detective Constable Gill Menzies was asked to implement Operation Encompass across Gateshead, in conjunction with Gateshead Council Safer Communities. DC Menzies says “We are improving the way we share information every day and this is a simple yet effective example of how that information can greatly help in ensuring the continued welfare of children and young people.”

Remember to stay safe on the 5th of November
Using breadsticks, jam and sprinkles we made our own sparklers and chatted about how to stay safe. You must hold it away from you and only have them if you have a grown up with you. The best bit was when we got to eat our sparklers.

Exploring Light and Dark
As the days are getting a little darker, we got out the torches and made some dark dens to see how the light shone on different surfaces.
Halloween Fun
What a fun filled spooky week we have had in nursery. We have joined in with : making pumpkin soup and scooping out the pumpkins, exploring the different textures : making witches potions counting bats and rats : Halloween crafts : we made broom sticks and flew them...
Whatever Next
Today, after exploring the solar system for the week, we zoomed off into space. We wore our space helmet and Wellington boots just like Baby Bear. Did you know there are hot and cold planets? We live on earth where there is land and water.

Natural trails back home
Using the story ‘Hansel and Gretel’ we discussed how lucky we are to be able to have access to food and clothing when we need it. We used natural objects to create trails from the wooden house back to our classroom, using super problem solving and team work skills....
