Last week, we celebrated World Book Day at Rowlands Gill Primary School. The theme for this year was We Are Readers. So we spent lots of time exploring books by different authors and talking about when and how we can find the time to read.
Across the week, we had two assemblies everyday where a different teacher would read one of their favourite stories to the whole school. The children really enjoyed these assemblies and asked many questions about the books, the authors and the illustrators. In fact, the assemblies were such a success that we’ve decided to make them a permanent feature on a Thursday morning!
On World Book Day itself, we celebrated in class by focussing all of our lessons around one key text. Each class was involved in a variety of activities including drama, discussions, reading, writing, art and DT – all focussed on their key text. To make things even better, we even came to school in our pyjamas to remind everyone of the importance of a bed time story.
