This term the children have been learning about the HIndu New Year celebrations called Divali. They have been thinking about the tradition of setting  personal targets and how they would like to achieve them.  There was a vast array of targets including; learning Spanish; climbing the hard boulder; getting better at Maths and English, riding a horse; handwriting and a whole lot more. They went on to talk about the symbolism of light, its importance in religion and wrote some amazing poems. They listened to the story of Rama and Sita from the Ramayana and how they followed the lights back home. Creating rangoli patterns, which are used to welcome the Goddess Lakshmi into homes, whilst discussing the Hindu attitudes to wealth and good fortune. Finally they researched Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and the son of Shiva and Parvarti and found out how Hindus worship him.
