This term the children  have been learning lots of new skills in DT. They began by researching prehistoric homes and how they could design and make them stronger. They found out that triangulation is key to strength. During a forest school session they had loads of fun creating a structure outside to resemble a prehistoric home. They used tools to cut and hammer branches, and then made the walls from wattle and mixed their own daub ( minus the manure)! They discovered communication was key and how tricky it would have been to make a strong structure which would also be weatherproof. Unfortunately, one afternoon is not enough time to create a weatherproof house! Back in the classroom, they went on to design their own houses and to use their new found skills of measuring wood and safely cutting it with hacksaws to each produce a panel which would be used in their shared house.  It was quite tricky to do but they were all successful.  They created two roundhouses and a longhouse.  They were brilliant and I hope you are proud of their achievements.  I know I was!
